About “The Old Man And The River”

Designed for the wine lovers in search of a truly substantial experience, this tour goes off the beaten path to deliver a memorable day in the heart of the Douro!

Gain exclusive access to one of the region’s best hidden gems – a winery with a prestigious reputation that’s renowned yet still under the radar. This family-owned estate has been producing exceptional wine and port for over four generations!

A feast for the senses

Lunch will feature a selection of pairings – from starters to dessert – all thoughtfully paired with wines from this unique winery.
Each dish will be explained by the winemaker, offering insight into the craft behind both the food and wine.
The menu is crafted from seasonal, homegrown organic produce, including ox heart tomatoes, butternut squash, fresh herbs, and other locally sourced ingredients.

To make the experience even more special, we’ve added a scenic boat ride aboard a replica of an old *rabelo*, a traditional Douro riverboat.

By the end of the day, you’ll have tasted 10 different wines, discovered the nuances between them, and maybe even be surprised by some unexpected pairings – all while being guided by a winemaker whose quiet distinction is as remarkable as the wines he creates.

This is the perfect opportunity for a deep dive into the world of Douro wines and a delicious, healthy lunch – all without a worry about what’s next.

Choose this experience and set sail for a journey you won’t forget!

Douro Review
The Old Man And The River https://g.page/r/CZ3n1sCJYXDAEAE/review

My husband and I took The Old Man And The River tour and had a fantastic day with Pedro. Pedro was so informative not just about wine but also about Portuguese life, the country, and history. We visited the Quinta do Infantado estate , learned about their family history of wine making practice, tasted several of their wines and ports and enjoyed a wonderful homemade 5 course meal. Not only did we get to view the beautiful countryside by boat but also the winding roads thru the colorful mountainside. I would highly recommend booking with New Douro Tour.
